The PUJ Update
The test on Katie’s spinal fluid has been done and since I’m writing this from the cabin of a Sunwing aircraft on my way to Punta Cana I have no access to internet, as such I don’t know the result.
Update: The test was negative for meningitis, mono, and covid. She’s down but not out. Send the girl some love, she needs it right now.
Answering the Call
This is the first health crisis that’s come up while I’ve been away at work, and it has highlighted the need for a support network. We are lucky to have all four of our parents still with us, we are unlucky that we live so far away from them. Though it’s not the distance, it’s the hours that separate us the most. Lucky for us we have two amazing sitters that Declan now knows well, who he reaches for when they arrive, who he chases to the door when they leave.
Both have been able to answer the call and Chelsea is currently at our home looking after the little fella. Let’s all wish Katie a speedy recovery from whatever evil bug has invaded her body.
Around the World in 90 Hours
Not quite but a lot less than 90 days. 1.17 trips around the planet this month, most of that flying taking place in the first three weeks of April. I’m feeling it, Katie’s feeling it, and if Declan could talk, I’m sure he’d say he’s feeling it as well. The good news is that after this pairing I’ll be home every night for the rest of the month, with just a couple of turns to Cabo and Puerto Vallarta next weekend.
The PUJ Event
As was the case last time I was here, we have more than 20 crew members staying the night in Punta Cana. On that previous occasion I snuck away from the bar before 11pm, keeping in mind that’s 8pm Vancouver time. I have my sights set on an earlier retirement this evening. It’s great to be social but stealing back those spare minutes doesn’t happen if we’re choosing to gas-bag with Air Force pilots all night like last time.
Update: We had a room get-together with both the YVR and YYC crew, and I spoke mostly of my wife, and then to my wife, and the crew (who she knows very well) also spoke to my wife. We also chatted about how other crew have expressed surprise at what must be going on inside Lucien’s head that he was able to write such a complex story in The Sequence. It’s a busy place inside my noggin, and getting these characters on to the page where they can live their own lives free of the confines of my own brain cage (nod to Katie here for coining that phrase) is a relief! It clears out the space for more and intriguing new characters to take shape. I love creating these worlds and I have grand designs on a hard sci-fi epic series but first, I need to complete this one.
You Gotta See the Baby
We had so many crew come through Cancun while Katie was there last week, and everyone was lovely, including this guy, we’ll just call him Trevor.
Even the local National Guard got involved, with C****s here taking Declan for a few minutes. I’m sure he didn’t teach him how to use this
[insert photo of close up on the handgun] but in time hopefully his mother who carries a restriction weapons permit will teach him properly

The Library
In the Royalton Riviera in Cancun they have a secret library, If you’re there ask around, it’s in the main Hideaway check in room, upstairs. I’ve left the second in my home@home series here. If you find it, please take photos and post them on instagram #thesequencebook or here
They are free to read and open to your in-book commentary. All for now as I feel a Part Three is in order. The story awaits..
Here’s a teaser:
“Turn down the volume!”
“You no touch my things! You check the van ok but you no touch my stuff”
“Turn down the fucking volume! I can’t hear my wife’s phone ringing!”
“You can’t touch in there. I have to go.” The driver tapped his watch, an old Seiko likely worth more than he knew. “More people to take. You have to go!”
“I’m not leaving without my wife’s phone. Now turn down the FUCKING volume!”
