From Beneath a Perpetual Synthetic Dusk
Dim office lighting, in a crawlspace without windows, tapping on a keyboard hoping for genius.
Substack? Why the move to paid?
If you’ve any interest whatsoever in the Social Media space (should that be capitalized?) then you are aware that some shit is up. Largely Elon-related, but he’s not alone, and this is not a space I’m interested in discussing it.
What I am interested in is sharing my life with my readers, which people consistently tell me is well, interesting. So here we go with the last month.
My baby boy Declan was born. Life CHANGING. and what a cutie. I held him for his first two hours while my wife recovered from surgery, he shit all over me and I didn’t care. I am 100% in love, even when he’s screaming. He’s four weeks old now and the smiles he gives us melt our hearts every time. I literally can’t handle the happiness in those moments.
Writing
My debut novel, “The Sequence,” has won some awards recently, and the sequel, “False Ignition,” is nearing submission. So to some degree I am a) cognizant that my target audience generally enjoys my writing and b) I need to not only continue to write, but write more, which I guess technically counts as c).
Community
I live in Whistler, BC, Canada. Our writing community is small and I have two jobs (flying Boeing aircraft and writing books) plus a newborn, a wife who loves me, and somewhere in there I enjoy watching Formula One racing, driving my own sports car at the track, and playing hockey, softball, and skiing. So online is a fantastic place to sit and communicate on my own time, while re-building communities from those receding and aging social-media platforms of old.
So let’s meet! Let’s chat about the writing process, flying airplanes, “sleeping late, having fun, getting wild, drinking whiskey, and driving fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested.” — To paraphrase Hunter S. Thompson.
What I intend to create with this space
I have a blog at lucientelfordbooks and while it’s informative, it’s also been inconsistent. Here I plan to start with a free blog, posting once a week, build an audience, and progress to paid, where I will release short stories, backstory to characters readers have asked for, in addition to a serialized release of The Sequence, and some early chapters of “False Ignition.”
In time, and if I find there’s interest, I’ll try an Audio Book narrated by yours truly.
This is a work in-progress for me, so I ask for your patience, your questions, your comments, and if I’m to become a better writer, your criticisms also.
