Mondays or Fridays? How About a Weekly Roundup Instead?
Titlization changes everything. (Is that a word?)
Edits.
Boy does it feel good to be closing chapter after chapter of edits. Like the kind of edits that could even possibly be final. What has been a glacial plod forward has suddenly become a steadily flowing stream. Progress measured in pages not paragraphs. The steady-state whimper of imposter syndrome has finally given way to belief, to confidence. There is writing to be done!
Work.
This week has found me back in the air after an almost three month hiatus of daddy-leave (parental I think it’s called) and regular vacation. It hit with a bang with a four-thirty in the morning call out to fly to Cancun and back with 24 hours down south. I maximized my time with a recovery sleep, beach time reading and some much needed quiet pondering of my work-in-progress.
What does this mean for me? Identifying what I actually need to write effectively. Not 30 minute panic sessions, but five hour uninterrupted moments of peace. Not daily but certainly more than once a month.
The Boy.
He continues to challenge us by sleeping only during daylight hours. There is a distinct possibility that we are raising a vampire, he sure does like to bite. My colleagues tell me the vampiric episodes should only last another two or three years, by which time I anticipate building him a separate house in the yard where he can keep the deer up at night rather than his parents. Deer blood tastes the same as human, or so I hear…
No I joke. We love him and only 48 hours away has me wishing I could bring him with me to work. I wonder if he’d like the kudamundis?
The Resort.
We got to spend a few days at a college friend’s place on the island. When I say “place” I mean one of the buildings at the resort he lives in now. More pics to come but needless to say the property is spectacular and it was equally so catching up with him and our families after a full decade.
Next.
Furniture. The boy’s first birthday. Parental visits. Prepping the townhouse for AirBnB. Manuscript submission. Working with my editor. Promotion. Relaunch of The Sequence to make up for its first launch during Covid. Deployment to Europe this summer. My wife’s birthday. Moving back to Canada. Becoming a WestJet pilot. The end of Sunwing.
That’s up to October just about covered. Does anyone have anything to add? I should have lots of free time as you can tell.
