Time, Dilated.
Def.
Time dilation is the difference in elapsed time as measured by two clocks, either due to a relative velocity between them (special relativity), or a difference in gravitational potential between their locations (general relativity). When unspecified, "time dilation" usually refers to the effect due to velocity.
Chronoception.
Def.
The subjective experience, or sense, of time, which is measured by someone's own perception of the duration of the indefinite and unfolding of events. The perceived time interval between two successive events is referred to as perceived duration.
So why is there no time?
At the end of the day, or in this case all throughout the day, when a spare minute or minutes emerge, and that which needs doing, whether it be at work or at home takes precedence, then spare becomes a misnomer. As these perceived spare minutes become occupied with daily tasks and requirements they cease to have ever existed, thus becoming never-were. We think the day gets away from us, but by and large it was taken.
Enter the Scheduler.
In order to avert the disappearing act or time dilation effect, there is but a single strategy that I can see to avoid the great disappearing act of spare minutes, scheduling. A block of time that is non-negotiable, like going to work, becomes the solution. A non 50/50 split of tasks during a specific time frame, to allow the completion of a task. Like writing a novel, or clearing out a crawlspace, maybe even going skiing.
Rough Notes.
Sitting here in a scheduled moment of dedicated writing time I found myself opening up a serious plot hole in False Ignition, one that must at all costs be rectified, lest the novel’s opening act be deemed convenient. So today’s task of writing has become one of staring, both at the screen, at my manuscript, and now trying to work out some thoughts here in the weekly blog. For inspiration I’ve added a screenshot of what will eventually become the wraparound cover for the book. I’ve purchased the rights, and once I’ve submitted then this image or one from the series will become the de-facto cover.
For now I’m back to my allotted time, to stare, to read, perchance to dream.
